In the West, asana practice is often conflated with ‘Yoga’ and practiced as something of a workout. But reading Patanjali one realises that asana may or may not be part of a yogi’s Sadhana.
In this 5hr workshop we’ll dive into the history of asana, its main purpose and role within our practice to learn how to properly utilise it.
Both 2.5hr sessions will consist of a lecture followed by a practice. Please bring a notebook, a pen, and a curious mind. The workshop will be taught in English.
About Jonas Before becoming a Yoga teacher, Jonas was a professional 400-meter runner and pro-sports athlete working part-time in the fields of Communication, Sports, and Technology. He had won a Bronze medal in the 2012 European Championships, several national titles, and taken part in the London 2012 Olympics as part of the German 4x400 relay team.
Jonas came to Yoga while still a runner naively looking for a way to complement my practice, but soon realized that Yoga was much more than a mere stretching routine. Curious about it's philosophical foundation and it's markedly spiritual tone, Tantric Hatha yoga has brought a great deal of depth into my life. It has given purpose and direction to his practice, a solid basis to his teaching, and enabled him to realize that, sometimes, to get what you want, you don't just have to work hard at it, but rather learn to let go.
Until spring 2020 Jonas used to teach at The Practice Bali and is now a teacher at Lord Vishnus Couch (Köln) and The Vinyasa People (Bonn).
