85/70€ Early Bird 200€ Workshop & Performance Project (Registration via firstname.lastname@example.org)
Every day we negotiate what we need to do with what we can do with what we want to do. What emerges out of this negotiation, this dance with our desires, our needs, and our environment, is contingent upon what we can do and how we can perceive our momentary situation. There is always something beyond our perception, alternatives we have not yet imagined. One function of art is to train our perceptual and kinetic abilities to imagine and create these alternatives. In this performance project, we will distill everyday interpersonal negotiations into the physical, the spatial, and the temporal. By pulling the everyday body out of the every day, and rigorously investigating it, we hope to show more possibilities of the body. By extracting spatial and temporal relationships from their cultural and social origins, we reimagine possible futures for those relationships. By investigating the flow, speed, and development of our dancing, the relationship of solo to duet to ensemble, we challenge the order of things. Juxtaposing solo kinespheric scores with practices from Contact Improvisation with compositional theories from the Six Viewpoints and Ensemble Thinking, we will physically ruminate over several questions: • What is my inspiration in the moment: solo body, contact with other(s), spatio-temporal composition? • Does observation of the self by the other affect/influence/challenge my dancing? • What are my habits? Do they help or hinder me? • How much does the group influence my movement choices? Do I want them to? • How can I influence the actions of the group? Do I want to? • What do our collective body-minds create in the moment and on stage?
The workshop can be booked separately from the subsequent performance project. Participation in the performance project requires full attendance of the workshop.
During the first week, August 1-5, we will practice solo body scores and see how these principles relate to composing in the moment as an ensemble.
During the subsequent weekends of the performance project, we will deepen the material through repetition, building a shared and collective history. The aim is to be equally able to support a solo as part of an ensemble and support an ensemble when dancing a solo.
The weekend sessions for the performance project take place on the following dates:
Always Sundays: 4., 11., 18., 25. September 2., 9., 16., October
The Performance itself will take place on Saturday, 22nd October 2022.
