Off the apparatus, ground-based training

Question for participants: What do you understand strength to be? And Conditioning? How do they differ?

Remember: if your aim is to have better conditioning and to gain strength, you have to get out of your comfort zone. We want to use our ground-based training to build better endurance and stronger muscles outside of the patterns we normally do in the air → we stress the muscle in new ways; we minimize the risk of injury.

Strength training (ie. resistance and weight training): the use of resistance to muscular contraction to build the strength, anaerobic endurance and size of skeletal muscles.

Conditioning: exercises to improve your “sports” or “fitness” performance; should include functional exercises but also exercises that differ from your aerial apparatus training;

involves a higher heart rate (from 70-80%), more repetitions, and less resistance; it improves stamina & endurance by training heart to be better at pumping blood;

Stamina: opposite of fatigue → mental and physical ability to sustain activity for a long period of time

Endurance: muscular = ability of muscles to work continuously without getting tiredcardiovascular = heart + lungs fuel body with oxygen
