BCD's approach to Handstands develops a practice towards BALANCING upside down.
🟣 WHAT WE'LL DO
To balance on a Handstand, we need:
- body-awareness
- strength
- alignment
This Workshop is an invitation to explore Handstands with curiosity, confidence, and awareness — whether you’re a total beginner or already practicing and want to refine your technique.
We’ll take time to understand and embody the foundations of Handstand Balancing — from the physical alignment to the mental calm that allows real progress.
Step by step, we’ll explore:
- The base: how to use your arms for stability
- The leg-work: how the legs help us GO to a Handstand, STAY there and LAND!
- The upper body: finding alignment to make balance possible
- Different variations of handstands
- Falling safely: technique to GET RID OF FEAR for good and gain confidence
- Strength & flexibility: exercises and stretches to build a solid, safe practice
- Common mistakes & how to avoid them
We'll take time on the technique of falling safely from a Handstand. Once your body knows how to fall, you're able to feel safe and secure upside down. Without fear, your mind relaxes — and that’s when real improvement begins. From there, it’s simply practice, patience, and play.

This Workshop is for you, if you'd like to:
- improve your alignment
- get rid of the fear of falling over
- get exercises to get stronger, in order to arrive to the axis and stay there
- fully understand the technique of balancing on a handstand, so you can practice in classes

BCD has had a bold presence in the field of teaching Floorwork and acrobatic Contemporary dance in Berlin in the last 11 years! We teach Contemporary Dance with focus on Floorwork technique and an acrobatic style of Contemporary dance, including Handstand Balancing practice.
BCD's Iliana has been teaching Floorwork, Handstands and acrobatic Contemporary dance weekly in different studios in Berlin since 2014.
👉 By the end of the Workshop, you’ll leave with a clear understanding of the set of principles of Handstand Balancing. Improving further is then a matter of practice and time.
